South Andaman

South Andaman is a district in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Union Territory of India. Total area of South Andaman is 2,672 km² including 2,640.03 km² rural area and 31.97 km² urban area. As per 2011 stats, South Andaman has a population of 2,38,142 peoples, out of which urban population is 1,40,747 while rural population is 97,395. South Andaman has a sex ratio of approximately 870 females for every 1,000 males. The district has a population density of 89 inhabitants per square kilometre. There are about 59,064 houses in the district, including 35,297 urban houses and 23,767 rural houses. When it comes to villages, there are about 108 villages in south andaman district.

The South Andaman district is further divided in to Tehsils / Blocks / PS / Community Development Blocks (C.D.Blocks) for administrative purposes. In India, the Block or C.D.Block is often the next level of administrative division after the tehsil. It is important to note that, In some states of India C.D.Blocks are equal to tehsils.

Ferrargunj is the largest tehsil in south andaman district covering area of 1343.70 km² while Port Blair is the smallest tehsil in south andaman district covering area of 548.41 km².
