Barpeta is a district in the Assam State of India. Total area of Barpeta is 2,282 km² including 2,245.62 km² rural area and 36.38 km² urban area. As per 2011 stats, Barpeta has a population of 16,93,622 peoples, out of which urban population is 1,47,353 while rural population is 15,46,269. The district has a population density of 742.2 inhabitants per square kilometre. There are about 3,37,929 houses in the district, including 31,495 urban houses and 3,06,434 rural houses.
