Madurai

Madurai is a district in the Tamil Nadu State of India. Total area of Madurai is 3,710 km² including 3,392.55 km² rural area and 317.45 km² urban area. As per 2011 stats, Madurai has a population of 30,38,252 peoples, out of which urban population is 18,46,801 while rural population is 11,91,451. Madurai has a sex ratio of approximately 990 females for every 1,000 males. The district has a population density of 819 inhabitants per square kilometre. There are about 7,94,887 houses in the district, including 4,79,851 urban houses and 3,15,036 rural houses. When it comes to villages, there are about 526 villages in madurai district.

The Madurai district is further divided in to Talukas / Blocks / PS / Community Development Blocks (C.D.Blocks) for administrative purposes.
