South Goa

South Goa is a district in the Goa State of India. Total area of South Goa is 1,966 km² including 1,666.80 km² rural area and 299.20 km² urban area. As per 2011 stats, South Goa has a population of 6,40,537 peoples, out of which urban population is 4,13,733 while rural population is 2,26,804. South Goa has a sex ratio of approximately 986 females for every 1,000 males. The district has a population density of 326 inhabitants per square kilometre. There are about 1,51,845 houses in the district, including 98,341 urban houses and 53,504 rural houses. When it comes to villages, there are about 132 villages in south goa district.

The South Goa district is further divided in to Talukas / Blocks / PS / Community Development Blocks (C.D.Blocks) for administrative purposes. In India, the Block or C.D.Block is often the next level of administrative division after the tehsil. It is important to note that, In some states of India C.D.Blocks are equal to tehsils.

For those who don't know, the C.D.Block is a rural area earmarked for administration and development in India. The area is administered by a BDO (Block Development Officer). A C.D.Block covers several gram panchayats, local administrative unit at the village level.

Sanguem is the largest taluka in south goa district covering area of 888.44 km² while Mormugao is the smallest taluka in south goa district covering area of 109.12 km².
