Jammu

Jammu is a district in the Jammu & Kashmir State of India. Total area of Jammu is 2,342 km² including 2,089.87 km² rural area and 252.13 km² urban area. As per 2011 stats, Jammu has a population of 15,29,958 peoples, out of which urban population is 7,65,013 while rural population is 7,64,945. Jammu has a sex ratio of approximately 879 females for every 1,000 males. The district has a population density of 653 inhabitants per square kilometre. There are about 3,14,199 houses in the district, including 1,54,908 urban houses and 1,59,291 rural houses. When it comes to villages, there are about 780 villages in jammu district.

The Jammu district is further divided in to Tehsils / Blocks / PS / Community Development Blocks (C.D.Blocks) for administrative purposes. In India, the Block or C.D.Block is often the next level of administrative division after the tehsil. It is important to note that, In some states of India C.D.Blocks are equal to tehsils.
