VillageInfo.in is an independent reference website that organises publicly available information about villages across India. Our objective is to make this information easier to find, understand and navigate. We do not create, modify or certify official records.

Data Sources

The information published on VillageInfo.in is compiled from publicly available sources, including:

  • Census of India: Village names, geographical classifications and historical reference data.
  • Local Government Directory (LGD): Administrative hierarchy, local government codes and Gram Panchayat mappings.
  • India Post: PIN Code and postal jurisdiction information.
  • Open Government Data (data.gov.in): Selected administrative and geographical datasets published by various departments.

Additional publicly available sources may be used where appropriate to improve the completeness and accuracy of the directory.

Methodology

Information from multiple sources is standardised and organised into a searchable administrative hierarchy:

State → District → Sub-District (Tehsil/Taluka) → Village

Where available, additional information such as Gram Panchayat, PIN Code and other administrative details is linked to the relevant village, allowing users to view related information from a single page.

Accuracy & Limitations

We make reasonable efforts to keep the information current and accurate. However, administrative boundaries, village names, jurisdictions, PIN Codes and other records may change over time, and such changes may not be reflected immediately.
