East District

East District is a district in the Sikkim State of India. Total area of East District is 954 km² including 928.83 km² rural area and 25.17 km² urban area. As per 2011 stats, East District has a population of 2,83,583 peoples, out of which urban population is 1,22,487 while rural population is 1,61,096. East District has a sex ratio of approximately 872 females for every 1,000 males. The district has a population density of 297 inhabitants per square kilometre. There are about 61,567 houses in the district, including 28,691 urban houses and 32,876 rural houses. When it comes to villages, there are about 114 villages in east district district.

The East District district is further divided in to Subdivisions / Blocks / PS / Community Development Blocks (C.D.Blocks) for administrative purposes. In India, the Block or C.D.Block is often the next level of administrative division after the tehsil. It is important to note that, In some states of India C.D.Blocks are equal to tehsils.
