Darjiling

Darjiling is a district in the West Bengal State of India. Total area of Darjiling is 3,149 km² including 2,995.51 km² rural area and 153.49 km² urban area. As per 2011 stats, Darjiling has a population of 18,46,823 peoples, out of which urban population is 7,27,963 while rural population is 11,18,860. Darjiling has a sex ratio of approximately 970 females for every 1,000 males. The district has a population density of 586.5 inhabitants per square kilometre. There are about 3,91,234 houses in the district, including 1,54,540 urban houses and 2,36,694 rural houses. When it comes to villages, there are about 616 villages in darjiling district.

The Darjiling district is further divided in to Subdivisions / Blocks / PS / Community Development Blocks (C.D.Blocks) for administrative purposes. In India, the Block or C.D.Block is often the next level of administrative division after the tehsil. It is important to note that, In some states of India C.D.Blocks are equal to tehsils.
