Thane District, Maharashtra

Thane is an administrative district in Maharashtra, India. The district is located about 40 km from Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra. Its administrative headquarters is in Thane. Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and Marwadi are the major languages spoken in the district. The district covers a total area of 9,558 km², including 8,459.79 km² of rural area and 1,098.21 km² of urban area.
