South 24 Parganas District, West Bengal

South 24 Parganas District is an administrative district in the state of West Bengal, India. It is situated about 50 km from Kolkata, the state capital of West Bengal. The district headquarters is located at Alipore. Bengali is the main language spoken in the district. The district covers a total geographical area of 9,960 km², including 9,541.28 km² of rural area and 418.72 km² of urban area.
