Kottayam is a district in the Kerala State of India. Total area of Kottayam is 2,206 km² including 1,932.29 km² rural area and 273.71 km² urban area. As per 2011 stats, Kottayam has a population of 19,74,551 peoples, out of which urban population is 5,65,393 while rural population is 14,09,158. The district has a population density of 895 inhabitants per square kilometre. There are about 4,87,296 houses in the district, including 1,40,397 urban houses and 3,46,899 rural houses.
