Sikkim

Sikkim is an Indian state located in the North-Eastern region of India. It was established on 16-May-1975. The capital of the state is Gangtok. The official languages are Nepali, Sikkimese, Lepcha, English. Additional official languages include Gurung, Limbu, Magar, Mukhia, Newari, Rai, Sherpa, Tamang. Major rivers include Teesta, Rangeet.

As per Census 2011, the total area of the state is 7,096 square kilometres, including 7,058 square kilometres of rural area and 38 square kilometres of urban area.

The state has a unicameral legislature with 1 Lok Sabha seat, 1 Rajya Sabha seat, 32 Vidhan Sabha seats. Judicial matters are handled by the Sikkim High Court. Sikkim shares borders with West Bengal, and has an international border with China, Nepal, Bhutan.

As per Census 2011, Sikkim has a total population of 6,10,577 people, including 3,23,070 males and 2,87,507 females. The sex ratio is 889 females per 1,000 males, population density is 86 people per km², and the literacy rate is 81.42%.
