Meghalaya

Meghalaya is a state located in the north-eastern region of India. It was established on 21-Jan-1972. The capital of the state is Shillong. The official language is English. Major rivers of Meghalaya include Umiam, Kopili, Myntdu.

As per Census 2011, Meghalaya has a total geographical area of 22,429 square kilometres, including 22,146 square kilometres of rural area and 283 square kilometres of urban area.

The state has a unicameral legislature with 2 Lok Sabha seats, 1 Rajya Sabha seat, 60 Vidhan Sabha seats. Judicial matters are handled by the Meghalaya High Court. Meghalaya shares borders with Assam, and has an international border with Bangladesh.
