Meghalaya

Meghalaya is an Indian State located in the Northeastern region of India. Meghalaya state is established on 21-Jan-1972.

Total area of Meghalaya is 22,429 km² including 22,146.11 km² rural area and 282.89 km² urban area. As per 2011 stats, Meghalaya has a population of 29,66,889 peoples, out of which urban population is 5,95,450 while rural population is 23,71,439. There are about 5,48,059 houses in the state, including 1,17,486 urban houses and 4,30,573 rural houses.

English, Garo, Hindi, Khasi, Pnar are the main languages of Meghalaya. As per ISO 3166-2:IN standard - the ISO code of Meghalaya is IN-ML. Meghalaya state is further divided in to districts for administrative purposes. West Khasi Hills is the largest district of Meghalaya by area while East Khasi Hills is the largest district by population. South Garo Hills is the smallest district of Meghalaya by both area and population.
